Shodasha Varga — the 16 divisional charts
In Parashari Jyotisha the Shodasha Varga is a specific classical set of sixteen divisional charts. It is not simply D1 to D16 in sequence: each Varga magnifies one area of life already indicated in the natal chart.
The classical set is D1, D2, D3, D4, D7, D9, D10, D12, D16, D20, D24, D27, D30, D40, D45 and D60. Each chart is produced by subdividing every sign into a fixed number of equal parts and mapping those parts onto the zodiac.
A divisional chart never replaces the D1 Rashi chart. It refines a subject the natal chart has already indicated — and a promise absent from D1 is not created by a Varga.

Why birth time matters more here
The higher the division, the smaller the slice of zodiac each part occupies — so a small error in birth time can move a planet into a different Varga sign.
- D2One part = 15°
- D9One part = 3°20′
- D24One part = 1°15′
- D40One part = 45′
- D45One part = 40′
- D60One part = 30′
How the Vargas should be read
- 1.D1 promise — the natal chart establishes what is indicated
- 2.The relevant house and its lord
- 3.The Grahas involved and their dignity
- 4.The Nakshatra occupied
- 5.The divisional chart relevant to the question
- 6.Planetary strength in that Varga
- 7.Dasha and Antardasha for timing
- 8.Transit (Gochar) where relevant
- 9.Final synthesis across all of the above
