Sookshma Dasha

Sookshma is the fourth level of Vimshottari, dividing a Pratyantardasha into still narrower periods. Its responsible use requires highly accurate birth data and confirmation from broader chart factors.

A Pratyantardasha can be subdivided further into Sookshma, also written Sukshma, Dasha. A display reading Saturn / Venus / Mercury / Jupiter should be read as Saturn Mahadasha, Venus Antardasha, Mercury Pratyantardasha and Jupiter Sookshma.

At this fourth level the timing window becomes narrow, and the interpretation depends increasingly on accurate astronomical calculation and a precise birth time.

Why these levels are used cautiously

  • A few minutes of birth-time error can move a fine period entirely
  • Software conventions differ, so displayed dates may not agree
  • Fine periods cannot create a result the horoscope does not promise
  • Presenting this precision without chart confirmation implies a certainty that is not justified

For most general consultations, Mahadasha and Antardasha — supported by the natal chart, the relevant Varga and transit — provide a more honest basis for guidance than a Sookshma period in isolation.
